Step 2: Character & Product
Select an on-screen presenter and configure product placement for your video.
What is the Character & Product step?
The Character & Product step lets you choose an on-screen presenter and feature products in your video. Pick from the character library, your brand's custom characters, or generate a new character with AI. You can also add a product photo and choose how it's displayed. This step is required — if you don't want a presenter, explicitly select 'None'.
Library
scriptmotion's built-in library of diverse, professional AI characters. Available to all users.
Brand
Custom characters specific to your brand workspace. These can be AI-generated or uploaded.
Generate with AI
Generate a new character from a description (gender, ethnicity, age, clothing, etc.). Costs 5 credits. The result appears in the editor for this video — click 'Save to library' and give it a name if you want to reuse this character in future videos; otherwise it's only used for the current video.
None
Skip the character entirely. Your video will be voiceover-only or product/scene focused.
Adding a Product
Toggle 'Add a product' to upload a photo for this video. Supports JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10MB — one photo per video.
That one photo is the product's identity shot. Any further reference images belong in Step 3: Scenes and References on models that accept a reference pool. Older videos that already carry several product photos keep every one of them — nothing is removed.
Display Style
How the product appears: Hero Shot (centered, prominent), Character Holds (your character interacts with it), Side by Side, or Background placement.
Placement Hint
Optional free-text guidance for how the product should be integrated into the scene.
Configuring Character & Product
Choose a character source
Pick a tab: Library, Generate with AI, Brand, or None. Most users start with the Library.
Browse and select
Browse available characters and click one to select it.
Or generate a custom character
On the Generate with AI tab, describe your character. Generation costs 5 credits and appears in the editor. To reuse it later, click 'Save to library' and give it a name — otherwise it's only used for this video.
Add product placement (optional)
Toggle 'Add a product' and upload one photo (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, max 10MB). Pick a display style — Hero Shot, Character Holds, Side by Side, or Background — and optionally add a placement hint.
Custom character generation costs 5 credits. Generating doesn't save the character automatically — click 'Save to library' and name it if you want to reuse it in future videos.
Not every AI model uses every image input. Character, product, and background images are only offered when the selected model actually supports them — the editor hides options that would have no effect.
